College athletes are now earning substantial income through NIL deals, but many lack the financial literacy needed to manage their earnings effectively. To address this situation, a new program aims to equip student-athletes with practical financial skills before they sign professional contracts or receive large paychecks.

Robinhood has announced the expansion of its Money Drills financial education program to the University of Delaware and Penn State University. The Money Drills program offers credit-earning courses on budgeting, saving, investing, and managing NIL income, with about 96% of students reporting improved personal financial skills after participating.

Beyond college sports, Robinhood collaborates with professional teams and extends its financial education offerings to professional athletes through a partnership with the Pro Athlete Community (PAC), including courses with executive credentials from the University of Miami.

“Financial literacy matters because making money is only half the story. It's not just about earning—it's about knowing how to invest wisely, protect your assets, and make smart decisions that build long-term stability,” said Jamar Taylor, NFL Veteran and PAC member, in a Robinhood news release. “When you master that, you're not just chasing checks, you're building a legacy, turning life's Monopoly board into something you own.”

Representatives from the University of Delaware and the Pennsylvania State University praised this new financial education offering.

“At Lerner College, we strive to prepare every student with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” said Oliver Yao, dean of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware. “Financial literacy is fundamental to both professional and personal success, and this new course is a perfect example of how we are creating innovative, accessible learning opportunities that equip students for life beyond the classroom.”

“At Penn State, we're thrilled to partner with Robinhood on the Money Drills program addressing our Division I student-athletes' unique financial and career development needs,” said Julie Heaton, Director of the Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center at Pennsylvania State University.
