The Wilmington, Delaware, area will host numerous fall festivals from September to November. Crafts, food, music, and film will be offered at many of these events. Here's a look at some highlights of these festivities:
September
- The Oktoberfest at Delaware Sangerbund, held from Friday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 21, is a family-friendly event with carnival rides, parades, German music, traditional foods, and cultural performances. Witness the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe dancing troupe and specialty dishes like bratwurst and weisswurst.
- Regarded as the "best car show in Delaware," the Hagley Car Show on Sunday, Sept. 21, will include more than 500 vehicles from the early 1900s until the end of the century. This year's theme is "pony cars," otherwise known as high-style compact and sport convertibles. A special exhibit, Du Ponts Down the Road, will commemorate historic vehicles dating back to the late 1800s.
October
- The Wilmington International Film Festival, Oct. 9-12, presents a diverse lineup of films, including opportunities for attendees to connect with filmmakers during special events.
- The River Towns Ride & Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11, will feature scenic cycling along historic riverfront areas, including New Castle, Delaware City, and Wilmington. Medals for top cyclists will be presented, and complimentary beer will be served to those 21 years of age and older.
- The Hagley Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19, will offer handcrafted crafts, gourmet treats, and fine arts and collectibles from area artisans.
November
- The Diamond State Black Film Festival, held from Thursday, Nov. 6, through Sunday, Nov. 9, highlights films by people of color. It will feature panels, workshops, and master classes to inspire emerging storytellers.
- The Delaware Antiques Show, held from Friday, Nov. 7, through Sunday, Nov. 9, features more than 60 antiques dealers offering fine arts and collectibles, along with educational lectures. This event will take place at The Chase Center on the Riverfront, located at 815 Justison St. in Wilmington. Free parking is available, with accessible parking for people with disabilities.
