It's the most frightful time of the year. The Philadelphia region's scariest Halloween attractions are ready to entertain residents and visitors with plenty of spooktacular chills and thrills. Mark your calendars now and prepare to explore these three can't-miss haunts and happenings. 

Halloween at The Bates Motel

Hollywood-level special effects will be in full force at The Bates Motel, named one of America's 10 best haunted house attractions by CNN. This year's activities, which run from Sept. 19 to Nov. 2, will include the Haunted Hayride's 25-minute tour of the dark trails of Arasapha Farm's forest. A haunted house will deliver high-tech effects and realistic details, while the Revenge of the Scarecrows Haunted Corn Trail will terrorize guests with interactions from animatronic monsters and actors.

Halloween Nights at the Eastern State Penitentiary

This abandoned Philadelphia prison will serve as a macabre setting for fall fun after dark from Sept. 19 through Nov. 8. Eleven Halloween-themed attractions across 11 acres of the property will feature haunted houses, walking tours, campfire ghost stories, and a spooky beer garden promising plenty of tricks and treats.

Grim Philly Ghost Tours

Historians and professors will guide guests along the pathways of Philadelphia during these expertly researched, adults-only Grim Philly Tours. The tours include two excursions specifically created for the spooky season. 

An R-rated Dark Philly Adult Night Tour explores Old City landmarks with tales of ghosts, sex, vampires, blackmail, and murder from Revolutionary-era days. The True Crime Philadelphia: Cemetery & History Tour blends real-life crime narratives and history lessons with tales of serial slayings and psychopathic killers. Stops include Revolutionary-era sites including Elfreth's Alley and Benjamin Franklin's Grave
