Discover ways to promote environmental sustainability during Germantown's EcoFEST Block Party on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The festival highlights the work of the Water Shed, a Germantown hub that offers environmental education, community resources, and creative programming connected to local watershed concerns.

According to a Metro Philadelphia report, the event — with its theme “Roots & Resilience: Community, Culture, and Climate” — will run from noon to 6 p.m. along the 5300 block of Wayne Avenue. It will offer hands-on environmental activities, vendors, live performances, and educational resources.

Highlights of the block party include the following:

  • A drop-in science lab from the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University
  • Philly Water Bar
  • Paper shredding and electronics recycling
  • Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership's Creekmobile

Guests can also explore art and nature activities with resident artist Kaitlyn Pomerantz, listen to poetry readings and DJ sets, and participate in drumming, dancing, and raffles.

City agencies and community groups will be present to share resources on drinking water quality, employment opportunities, and water bill assistance.

The Water Shed is part of the Waterway Arts Initiative, a partnership among PWD, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and the Academy of Natural Sciences.
