Hosted by the Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum, AirFest combines the best of an airshow, living history museum, and attraction for lovers of aviation.
This year, AirFest 2025 will feature a rare opportunity for members of the public to view a historic piece of aircraft on exhibit: the Messerschmitt Me 262. The plane served as the first operational jet fighter in history, changing the game for air combat during World War II.
According to an account on the WildwoodVideoArchive.com website, the German-engineered jet soared through the skies at more than 500 mph. Few examples of this aircraft exist today, and even fewer are capable of being flown.
In addition to the Messerschmitt Me 262, additional aircraft exhibited will include the following:
- B-25J SandBar Mitchell (Nose and Turret)
- C-53 “Beach City Baby”
- Fuji LM-1 “Nikko”
- Goodyear FG-1D Corsair
- SNJ/AT-6 Texan
On Saturday, Aug. 30, the event will host a fly-in from the Aero Club of Pennsylvania and members of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Guests will also be able to enjoy food trucks, aviation exhibits, vendors, and hands-on activities for kids.
The event is sponsored by the J. Byrne Insurance Agency, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Cape May County Division of Culture and Heritage.
