Eagles Survey Fans About Possible Renovations And New Stadium

In an email to fans on Thursday, July 24, the Philadelphia Eagles included a survey about possible renovations to Lincoln Financial Field or the potential for a brand-new stadium.

"As we look to the future, we're committed to delivering the best-in-class game-day experience for Philadelphia Eagles fans," the email obtained by CBS News Philadelphia read. "To help guide this vision, we're exploring potential updates to Lincoln Financial Field — including both renovation options and the possibility of a brand-new stadium in the region."

The Eagles' lease with the city is set to expire in 2032.

The survey sent to fans follows comments made earlier this year by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Lurie expressed interest in hosting a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, but to do so, the Linc would need a retractable roof.

"I love outdoor football. I love it. I love the cold games. I like the hot games. I like the snow games," he told CBS Sports at a Super Bowl media event earlier this year. "On the other hand, Philadelphia deserves to host the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and lots of great events. It's an incredible sports city, so yes, you got to balance all those things."

While the Eagles have renovated the Linc since its opening in 2003, the structure would need a retractable roof to host an event like the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl hasn't been held in an open-air stadium with cold weather since it took place at MetLife Stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in 2014. 

The Linc recently supported the FIFA Club World Cup. Next year will be a big sports year for Philly, which will host the World Cup, NCAA Tournament games, and the MLB All-Star Game in 2026.
