Summer in Philadelphia means settling down in the evening. Why not catch an outdoor movie? All you need to enjoy a film is a picnic basket or some popcorn, a blanket, and family and friends to share the experience with. Explore some of the following outdoor movie venues recommended by Visit Philadelphia

Fairmount Park Conservancy

Hosted by Park Friends Groups in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy, this film series is spread out across 30 different green spaces from South Philly to the Northeast this summer and through Oct. 24. Films shown include "Mufasa" and "Moana 2" to "Captain America: Brave New World" and "A Minecraft Movie."

Independence Mall

With Independence National Historic Park as the backdrop, the Movies on the Mall series offers family-friendly historical flims shown under the stars, all free and open to the public. Beginning at 5:30pm, kids can go back in time to participate in 18th century games, scavenger hunts, and arts and crafts before the films begin at dusk. The film series runs through Sept. 19.

Mercer Museum

Members of the public are invited to bring their own chairs or picnic blankets to enjoy films presented as part of the Movies at the Mercer Museum film series on Thursday nights (select dates) from July 17 through Oct. 16.

Audiences can enjoy these family-friendly classics against the backdrop of the historic  Mercer Museum castle in Doylestown. Tickets are $12 for general admission (discounts for members and kids). An additional $5 allows you to pre-purchase a box of popcorn in advance of the film.

Oxford Memorial Park

The Chester County borough of Oxford will host its Third Friday Movies at Oxford Memorial Park on South Third Street every third Friday of the month (select dates) for 8:30 p.m. showings through Oct. 11.

Sunset Social

West Philadelphia's Sunset Social will host summer evening Wednesday Movie Nights and family-friendly Saturday Movie Matinees on a giant 60-foot screen set up on the lawn of Cira Green through July 26. Burgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, ice cream and assorted beverages will be available for purchase from the rooftop bar café.
