Spirit Airlines will add a new nonstop flight destination between Atlantic City Airport and Miami International Airport beginning in mid-August.
Officials with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA), which owns and operates Atlantic City Airport (ACY), said that the seasonal flights would start on Aug. 13 and operate four days a week.
“Our team has been working closely with Spirit Airlines for several months to bring this new service to our travelers,” said Stephen F. Dougherty, SJTA executive director, in a statement shared with NJ Advance Media. “Miami is a natural fit for ACY, and this new nonstop route will provide passengers with even more convenient options.”
“Our new nonstop service to Miami offers ACY travelers another option to reach Florida alongside our nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Palm Beach,” said John Kirby, vice president of network planning at Spirit Airlines, in a statement.
The seasonal route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The new nonstop service is Spirit's third route expansion announcement this month. Spirit Airlines previously announced that it would add nonstop flights from Chattanooga, Tennessee (on June 4) and Columbia, South Carolina (on June 5) to three airports, including Newark Liberty.
Spirit and American Airlines are the two largest carriers that operate at the Egg Harbor Township airport.
