Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown delivered words of encouragement to graduates at the University of Mississippi's 172nd annual commencement on Saturday, May 10. More than 5,500 students participated in the ceremony in the Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss.

A.J. Brown, who has stood up to challenges from some of the most competitive linebackers and safeties in the SEC and NFL, told graduates to never take their eyes off their futures and always create their own plays. He offered three simple rules to live by:

  • “Run your own route. Comparison kills potential faster than failure ever could.”
  • “Self-awareness is a form of leadership.”
  • “Think bigger than today. Real greatness is built when nobody's watching.”

Brown borrowed a quote from Super Bowl MVP and fellow Eagles teammate Jalen Hurts: “Success is not owned. It's rented, and rent is due every single day.”

As the graduates prepared to begin a new chapter in their lives, Brown urged them to dream big: “Bigger than what feels safe. Bigger than what feels comfortable.”

Brown, an Ole Miss alum, broke multiple school records during his collegiate career. According to an Eagles Wire report, he was the school's all-time leading receiver with 2,984 receiving yards. He was honored as an All-American and All-SEC student-athlete during his career with the Rebels.
