Bucks County officials are warning residents about at least two reported scams targeting neighborhoods in which scammers impersonate police and License and Inspection officers.

NBC10 Philadelphia reported that one scammer allegedly impersonated a law enforcement officer and told the victim there was a warrant out for the person's arrest unless the individual paid a lot of money.

The other scammer allegedly distributed fake township ordinance violations to businesses and residents in Upper Southampton Township. If you reside in Upper Southampton Township and you receive a violation notice from the License and Inspection Office, please call 215-355-0677 to confirm if it is legitimate.

The Bucks County District Attorney's Office shared the following tips to help protect residents from falling victim to these types of scams:

  • Law enforcement agencies will never ask for immediate payment by email, phone calls, or text messages. Official communications about fines or other legal obligations will always come by mail.
  • Never give out personal information, such as your Social Security number, credit card number, or bank account details over the phone or by text message to someone you don't know. Law enforcement agencies will not ask for this information in this way.
  • Be cautious about threatening, urgent language in phone calls or text messages. Scammers use these tactics to get victims to respond to their demands without thinking.
  • Always verify the identity of the person contacting you. If an individual claims to represent a law enforcement agency, don't hesitate to hang up and contact your local police department or sheriff's law to verify.
  • Never click on links found in suspicious emails or download attachments from unknown sources. Doing so can lead to malicious websites that can steal your personal information.
  • Talk to someone you trust before making any decision to send money or act in a certain way based on a suspicious email or phone call.

If you are contacted by someone posing as a law enforcement official, do not give them money, officials said.
