In collaboration with numerous city departments and nonprofits, Philadelphia's Office of Clean and Green Initiatives has launched the One Philly, United City Citywide Cleaning Program for Summer 2025.

During a 13-week period from Monday, May 5, through Friday, Aug. 1, agencies and departments across Philadelphia will address abandoned vehicles, illegal dumping, graffiti, nuisance properties, and vacant lots.

This summer, Philadelphia's Citywide Cleanup will join a national effort to remove 25 billion pieces of litter nationwide by America's 250th birthday on July 4, 2026, as part of the Greatest American Cleanup.

According to a City of Philadelphia news release, city crews will continue to use the Department of Sanitation's existing collection routes to permit cleaning of each neighborhood. Cleaning teams will work in each sanitation district until all neighborhoods have been cleaned. The teams will be assigned to a route and scheduled to work a day behind the area's trash and recycling collection day to maximize impact.

According to the release, the Sanitation-led cleaning program will work with other City agencies to address significant quality-of-life issues and clean additional public spaces in each Sanitation district. This work will include:

  • Maintaining and repairing vacant lots and removing graffiti
  • Cleaning commercial corridors
  • Deep cleaning neighborhood parks and rec centers
  • Cleaning and maintaining lawns between neighborhood schools
  • Inspecting, cleaning, sealing, and enforcing regulations against nuisance properties
  • Removing unregistered and abandoned automobiles
  • Maintaining the Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) and inlets
  • Paving and repairing potholes
  • Cleaning transit stations

Individuals across Philadelphia can view opportunities to volunteer and participate in the “Join the Fight” against litter and illegal dumping online at officeofcleanandgreen.org.
