South Street Live! — Philadelphia's annual spring festival that invites attendees to dance around a maypole, participate in a skateboarding party, and watch the Kentucky Derby — returns to the city on Saturday, May 3.
Guests can explore nine city blocks featuring markets, live performances, a Vinyl Block Party, a mini Renaissance Faire, and various food vendors.
The PhillyVoice shared the following highlights from the event's festivities:
Front to Second Streets
Board game cafe Queen & Rook will hold a Fantasy Renn Faire with swordplay and fire dancing performances, Renaissance Faire food, and live-action role play.
Headhouse Plaza
The Twisted Tail pub will host a Kentucky Derby celebration. The street party will include live music, lawn games, food, and a big screen that will allow individuals to watch the race, which begins at 6:57 p.m.
Members of the Philadelphia Union will also be at the plaza with sports-themed activities for kids.
Second to Third Streets
The Cultural Hub's main performance stage will feature entertainment from Mutya Philippine, Modero, and Three Aksha dance companies.
Third to Fourth Streets
Explore Artists Row, a market featuring creations from local artists. Eye's at 327 South St. will offer Latin American folk art for sale. Stop by Queen Village Food Market, 330 Bainbridge St., for refreshing piña coladas.
Fourth to Fifth Streets
Nocturnal Skate Shop, 612 S. Fifth St., will hold a live skateboarding party in the street. MilkBoy, 401 South St., will also feature entertainment on an outdoor stage.
Fifth to Sixth Streets
Repo Records will host the South Street Vinyl Block Party, with more than 40 dealers selling LPs, 45s, and CDs. Tattooed Mom's, 530 South St., will serve Lemon Bourbon Smash in juice pouches.
Sixth to Seventh Streets
Comic book shop Atomic City, 638 South St., and macabre home decor store DreamEerie, 623 South St., are handing out free comic books and hosting an unusual vendor market with live musicians and cosplayers.
Seventh to Eighth Streets
The beer hall Brauhaus Schmitz, 718 South St., will celebrate Maifest, a traditional German holiday welcoming the arrival of spring. Festivities include maypole dancing, flower crown making, and live music.
