The Chester County Sheriff's Office, Chester County District Attorney's Office, and the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County have collaborated to launch Shear Hope. This educational effort supports survivors of domestic violence by helping them connect with trained professionals in the cosmetology field.
Shear Hope gives cosmetologists the resources and tools needed to help them identify the signs of domestic abuse, respond with empathy, and provide their clients with connections to essential resources. Participating salon professionals are trained to spot behavioral and physical signs of domestic abuse, communicate effectively, and help people find the appropriate support systems and resources to receive help.
According to a Daily Local News report, the identities of participating salons are not publicly revealed to preserve survivors' privacy and safety.
Shear Hope provides informational handouts, referral resources, and training sessions with support professionals on days when most salons are closed for services.
For more details about the Shear Hope initiative or to learn more about future trainings, contact the Chester County Sheriff's Office at 610-344-6525.
