TIME Magazine added Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Jalen Hurts to its 100 most influential people list for 2025. The announcement came weeks after his incredible Super Bowl LIX MVP performance in February.
The Eagles star dominated Kansas City in a 40-22 blowout. His combination of accurate passing - 221 yards and two touchdowns - plus a game-breaking 72-yard rushing performance left spectators amazed.
The magazine listed Hurts in its "Icons" category, alongside actors Demi Moore and Adrien Brody. Baseball great Derek Jeter wrote the tribute for TIME's yearly list.
"The only thing he asked about was insight on going back and winning again. Sometimes people win, then exhale. Jalen is not exhaling. He’s embracing the next challenge. Win or lose, Jalen’s resilience and determination offer all of us something to admire."- Derek Jeter
Philadelphia got payback by beating these same Chiefs after their Super Bowl LVII defeat. The victory gave the Eagles only their second Super Bowl win ever.
Philly's defense hounded Mahomes throughout the game. Six sacks and three turnovers set the tone. They jumped ahead early and built a lead that KC couldn't erase.
At just 25, Hurts joined rare company - only Tom Brady and Joe Burrow had taken down Mahomes in playoff games before. His outstanding play quieted doubters who questioned him during last year's slump of six losses in seven games.
Since becoming a starter in 2021, he's guided the team to four playoff appearances, two Super Bowl appearances, and now a Super Bowl win. The team secured his future through 2028 with a huge $255 million contract.
This championship performance helped erase the memory of his crucial fumble in the previous Super Bowl. His precise 17-for-22 passing display was perfect when it counted most.
