During Monday's game (4/14) against San Francisco, Trea Turner surprised Philadelphia Phillies teammate Bryce Harper with news about his fourth child. The reveal happened through a special blue bat, right on the field.
Turner planned the surprise carefully. "He asked me earlier today to help him with the gender reveal... I think he wanted to share that moment with us... I messed with him a little bit in the dugout... He thought he was having a girl," Turner told Fox News.
A local company, Victus Sports, created both pink and blue bats for the big reveal. These match the colors MLB players use during parent-themed games each season.
The baby will join Harper's other children - son Krew and daughters Brooklyn and Kamryn. This was the first time the public learned about the upcoming baby.
Though the Giants won 10-4, and Harper struck out in his first at-bat, his team scored three runs that same inning. The game meant much more than just its final score.
Big life moments seem to line up with Harper's time in Philadelphia. His kids arrived around when he signed his big 2019 contract, and he took time off last April for his daughter's birth.
When speaking about his family, Harper thanks his wife's support. "I have an amazing wife... two beautiful kids that keep me very humbled and grounded," he told People.
