The 4th Annual DelDOT Name That Plow Contest

Kids love tractors… and trucks… and trains… and yep, plows too. Now they can name them. Yesterday, DelDOT (Delaware Department of Transportation) launched their 4th annual “Name That Plow Contest”….

A parking lot with a portion of the road plowed, but the rest of the road and a few cars are covered in light snow. DelDOT's Name That Plow contest allows young students the opportunity to name snow plows.

Kids love tractors... and trucks... and trains... and yep, plows too. Now they can name them. Yesterday, DelDOT (Delaware Department of Transportation) launched their 4th annual “Name That Plow Contest”. The contest offers kids across Delaware from Kindergarten to 5th grade the opportunity to name some of Deldot’s snowplows. They come up with some really clever names too!

Last year's contest brought in more then 200 entries and the winning names did not disappoint.

2023-24 DelDOT "Name That Plow" Winners

Representing Sussex County, 4th grader Sophia R. submitted “Ice Ice Bladey”.

For New Castle County, 3rd grader Logan S. came up with “Blades of Flurries”.

And (my personal favorite) Kent County kindergartner Parker H. submitted “Melton John”.

Entries are now open for a chance to name this winter's DelDot plows. Submissions can be made as a class or from individual students. Find all of the information you need to enter HERE, and send your submission by Friday, November 8th. One winner from each county will be selected, and a snowplow will visit their school. Send entries via email to dotpublic@delaware.gov.

Submissions Requirements

  • School name
  • Plow name
  • Class/Teacher/Student name
  • Grade

According to Delaware.gov, "DelDOT has more than 300 pieces of snow removal statewide and is responsible for treating and plowing almost 14,000 lane miles of roadway. Learn more about Delaware's winter storm operations HERE.

A super cute contest, but I'm holding out hope that none of these plows get any use this winter.
