Día de los Muertos falls on a Friday this year, and FDR Park in Philly is the place to celebrate. Fairmount Park Conservancy and artist Cesar Viveros have a Gran Fiesta de los Muertos: Day of the Dead Celebration planned. This cultural celebration honors the lives of deceased loved ones and offers an opportunity to experience the rich traditions of Mexican heritage. Enjoy captivating dance and musical performances, admire a large-scale art installation by Mexican-American artist Cesar Viveros, try food samples from local vendors, and explore the Mercado de Latinas for handcrafted items and unique gifts.

Cesar will be constructing the Día de los Muertos large art installation on the steps of the boathouse in honor of the holiday, which will be on display throughout the weekend. Stop by anytime November 1-3, 6 am to 6 pm, to view the installation. (FREE)

Day of the Dead Music Workshop and Family Fun

Saturday, November 2, 12 - 2 pm: Free Day of the Dead music workshop with Fairmount Park Conservancy and Miss Cat of Mister John's Music for an interactive, family-friendly program at the Anna C. Verna Playground in FDR Park. Sing, dance, and even learn to play a new instrument in this bilingual musical program celebrating the popular Día de los Muertos holiday. There will be two programs, each roughly 45 minutes in length. Stop in anytime. (FREE) RSVP here.

Getting There

Public Transportation: Use SEPTA to travel to Broad Street Line's NRG Station (last stop). The nearest Indego bike station is at Broad and Pattison.  

Parking: Plenty of free parking near the boathouse.

What to Bring

Food vendors will be present, offering a variety of culinary options. We recommend bringing both cash and a card, as payment methods may vary. You are welcome to bring your food and beverages. If you’re bringing a minor, please ensure an adult accompanies them. For your comfort, please remember to bring water and insect repellent. Portable restrooms will be available on-site.
