Have you listened to 95.7 BEN FM recently? In the past 5 years? If so, you have most likely already been introduced to Philadelphia comedian Chip Chantry, or at least his humor.

Who is Chip Chantry?

After years of teaching fourth grade in Philadelphia, Chip Chantry graduated to become a television writer and nationally touring comedian. He has written for NBC's Crazy Talk, and the syndicated series Whacked Out Sports. He recently wrote on the NatGeo series Howie Mandel's Animals Doing Things. Chip was the winner of 2013's Philly's Phunniest Contest at Helium Comedy Club, where he is a regular performer. Chip also won the "Funniest Comedian" award in Philadelphia's annual Comedy Awards in 2012 and 2014, and was named "Best Comedian" in 2018 by Philadelphia Magazine.
He tours the country performing, and opening for headliners such as Dave Chappelle, Bob Saget, and headlining clubs himself.  Chip has been a recurring guest on the podcasts "Doug Loves Movies" and "The Todd Glass Show". He also has two great comedy albums, 2012's Across from the Adonis and 2019's Swingers Party.
And if you're a BEN FM listener, you might know Chip's Deck the Hall and Oates video, a staple of any true Philadelphian each and every Christmas season.

He's got a few shows coming up locally.

  • Saturday, April 6th at Steel Stacks in Bethlehem. Buy tickets HERE.
  • Saturday, April 27th at 4pm at Helium Comedy Club in Philly. Chip will be recording a special matinee show that afternoon. General admission seats are $22 and reserved tickets are $30. Get them HERE.

So how exactly are Chip Chantry and BEN FM connected?

BEN FM is almost entirely music, but in between songs is where Chip's jokes shine. In the radio biz, the little quips in between songs are called sweepers. They can be as simple as "95.7 BEN FM" or really, whatever we like, as long as it keeps the music going from one song to the next. In 2020, BEN FM made the genius decision to hire Chip Chantry as a writer for the station, and from that point on, the sweepers on BEN FM have never been better. He's native to Philadelphia, so every line is hyper local and relatable, and just a tad quirky.

Here are just a few of our favorites:

YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT CHAMPAGNE UNLESS IT COMES FROM THE CHAMPAGNE REGION OF FRANCE. AND IT'S NOT A SOFT PRETZEL UNLESS YOU BUY IT FROM A SHOPPING CART ON BROAD STREET.

FROM PURPLE RAIN TO BLACK VELVET, TO RED, RED WINE. SONGS SO GOOD, YOU CAN ALMOST SEE
THEM. 957 BEN FM

The list goes on and on. You may have heard Chip DJ on BEN FM before too. Sort of. In 2023 BEN FM's April Fool's prank was to have Chip Chantry DJ throughout the day as a bumbling DJ who mispronounced the name of every song and artist. It made for a really fun day, and the e-mails and texts we got on that one were pretty interesting, to say the least.

Find more about Chip on X (Twitter), Instagram, or at chipchantry.com. He's also got a podcast called JUNK MILES w/ Chip and Jeff.

We're super lucky to have Chip Chantry here locally, and especially lucky to have him working with us at BEN FM. Check him out live at an upcoming standup show, or tune in to BEN FM 24/7 to hear Chip Chantry's jokes all day long between songs.
