Philadelphia Is One Of The Best Cities For Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day
Different cities have their own St. Patrick’s Day traditions. For instance, Chicago leading up to St. Patrick’s Day is known by many for dyeing its river green. Several other places are known for their elaborate pageants, pub crawls, or long processions of marching bagpipers in parades. But not every city is ideal for St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
WalletHub, a financial advisor website compared 200 of the largest cities across 15 key metrics to find the best places to wear green and save money. They mentioned that consumers are projected to spend $7.2 billion on the holiday this year.
Their data set ranges from Irish pubs and restaurants per capita to the lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day to the weather forecast.
“St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the Irish, but it’s become a beloved cultural holiday for millions of Americans regardless of their ancestry, said Cassandra Happe, a WalletHub analyst. She went on to say that the best cities for St. Patrick’s Day combine rich traditions with tasty and affordable food, safe conditions to celebrate, and good weather. “Celebrating in one of these cities will increase your chances of having a memorable holiday, as long as you don’t overdo it,” she continued.
Philly is one of the best cities for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year.
The city secured spot number 12 in the ranking. Interestingly, Philly’s McGillin’s Olde Ale House was named one of the best Irish bars in the U.S. by the Travel Channel. This makes sense because it is one of Philly’s oldest continuously operating taverns, which began pouring in 1860. Last year, the city ranked on WalletHub’s same report in the number 2 spot. So, some would expect the city to rank a bit higher.
If you’re wondering where Pittsburgh ranked, they snagged the number 5 spot. The ranking shows that the city didn’t fare well when it comes to weather. It scored very low in that category.
Making up the top 3 are Boston, MA, Chicago, Illinois, and Savannah, Georgia.
