Pennsylvania Pumpkin Patch Named One Of The Best In The U.S.
In many regions of the country, it has become common to find Halloween candy displayed in stores in August. But late September and early October is the time when the pumpkin patches thrive. TimeOut recently published a report on the best pumpkin patches in the country, and a Pennsylvania location made the list.
“While every state produces pumpkins (yes, it’s true), only the country’s top patches offer gourds and good times—think fall activities like corn mazes and leaf-peeping and spooky Halloween fun, including haunted hayrides,” TimeOut explains, providing details on their requirements.
When you plant pumpkin seeds, they typically begin to bloom within 8-10 weeks. Pumpkins then can take 90-120 days to mature, according to Creative Vegetable Gardner. Weather is an important part of the process. The warmer weather helps pumpkins grow, while the cooler fall temperatures are best for ripening.
In Pennsylvania, the destination named one of the best pumpkin patches in the country is settled within a farm with a swim club on the grounds.
Linvilla Orchards
Located on 137 West Knowlton Road in Media, Pennsylvania, Linvilla Orchards is a short distance from Philadelphia. It is a 300-acre family-owned property, where the pumpkin patch section is appropriately named “Pumpkinland.”
“See our piles of pumpkins in all colors, shapes and sizes — over 100 tons on display,” Linvilla Orchards states. This area is open from September through early November. In addition, the area is highly decorated in Halloween décor to help get guests in the true spirit. You will find scarecrows on display and signs sharing historical facts about pumpkins and apples.
“At night, take a hayride to the Witch’s House to visit a friendly witch in the woods who tells stories and jokes,” TimeOut explains. This autumn moon hayride takes you on a 20-minute loop around the orchard and concludes at a campfire where you can roast marshmallows and enjoy apple cider.
Lastly, there are two swim clubs at Linvilla Orchards (Hidden Hollow and Knowlton) that open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
