St. Joe’s Prep graduate D’Andre Swift torched the Minnesota Vikings for 175 yards on 28 carries. The broadcast lauded the local product with multiple mentions of his alma mater, a football powerhouse in the Philadelphia Catholic League. His pregame intro even gave the Prep a shoutout.

What games does he remember dominating like he did in his first game at the Linc as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles? Swift showed the Philly in him after the game with a light jab at his high school rival.

“Every time we played La Salle,” he said lightheartedly.

Fellow Prep graduate Olamide Zaccheaus also played a contributing role after Quez Watkins left the game with a hamstring injury. The love for a local high school is great, but will it upset other Catholic high school alumni and create feuds at 97.5 The Fanatic?

St. Joe’s Prep Vs. The Philadelphia Catholic League

John Kincade will always defend Cardinal O’Hara as the station’s go-to Delaware County guy. He has some ammo to back him up. Former O’Hara running back Kevin Jones eclipsed 1000 rushing yards in his rookie NFL season back in 2004.

Corey “Philly” Brown reached the Super Bowl as a member of the Carolina Panthers after the 2015 season. Quarterback Tom Savage also made the O’Hara Lions proud in three NFL seasons.

Pat Egan, a graduate of the old Cardinal Dougherty, still has Kyle Lowry to brag about when the conversation shifts to high school basketball.

You’ll hear Temple University references whenever Haason Reddick comes up. The feared edge rusher graduated from Haddon Heights in South Jersey.

However, Bob Cooney has some bragging rights for his Catholic alma mater from outside the PCL and across the river. Reddick also attended Camden Catholic for his freshman season. Connor Thomas will attest as a fellow South Jersey native.

A Philly Thing

Swift’s comments could easily spark controversy in the La Salle community. Eagles beat reporter Tim McManus didn’t take too kindly to the shot at his alma mater. The Explorers have been right next to the Prep at the top of the Philadelphia Catholic League for decades.

The City of Brotherly Love has a knack for going overboard with high school representation, especially coming from alumni of the Catholic League schools.

D’Andre Swift might’ve sparked some controversy with the St. Joe’s Prep pride. However, 97.5 The Fanatic hosts might not focus on their high school allegiances if Swift replicates his outstanding performance from the 34-28 victory against the Vikings.
