Mornings with Kristen Herrmann

Weekdays 6:00am - 9:00am

Jerry Blavat and Kristen Herrmann in an elevator selfie following a studio interview. (Big smiles, as Jerry made everyone he met happy.)

Terrible news this morning that “The Geator with the Heater”, and “The Boss with the Hot Sauce”, Jerry Blavat has passed away at 82 years old. According to 6ABC, “He passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday at hospice at Jefferson-Methodist Hospital from the effects of myasthenia gravis and related health issues.”

Such a sad day for all of Philadelphia and the many many people who loved him. Fittingly, he passed today January 20th on National Disc Jockey Day. He was the absolute best of the best and we were so lucky to have him here locally. He brought joy to countless people throughout his life, with an energy like no one else. He had style, unmatched dance moves, and he told the best stories. You can read some of those many stories in his book, “You Only Rock Once: My Life in Music”. It’s great. Find it HERE.

You can also hear some of those stories in his many captured broadcasts and interviews. I was lucky enough to speak with him a few times over the years in the BEN FM studio. Find links to few of those interviews below. You can hear his energy and the way joy just radiated through his voice.

Sending so much love to Jerry’s family and friends, and all who knew him. He was larger than life. Your man, My man, Jerry Blavat will be forever missed and loved always.
