Delaware Ranked Safest State to Drive – PA, NJ in Top 10
Delaware has culture, beauty, history, tax free shopping, and (apparently) Delaware is ranked the safest state to drive.
Believe it or not, a study by PennStakes.com found that drivers in the Tri-State area are among the best drivers in the country. Anyone who’s driven on 95 or the Schuylkill lately may disagree, but we’ll go with it. The study took factors like knowledge tests, insured drivers, DUIs, deaths, gas prices, clear days, age for license and learners permit, and license holders into account to reveal the safest states to drive across the county.
Delaware ranked number one as the best and safest state to drive. It also has the highest rate of drivers license holders, the second fewest DUIS per 100,000 drivers, and the joint-oldest age to apply for a learners permit (16).
Pennsylvania residents are among the safest drivers placing 9th in the US, but they also ranked 11th for DUI. There were 487 DUI reports per 100,000 PA drivers in 2022. PA drivers are good under pressure though, with the 4th highest rate for passing the driving exam (83%), behind Virginia (86%), Maryland (85%), and Idaho (85%).
The most dangerous state in this study was Alaska, which was do in part to a low number of clear days. The minimum age to apply for a learners permit in Alaska is also pretty young (14).
