Pennsylvania Airport Named the Worst in America
Traveling can be enough of a headache without having to deal with a bad airport. As it turns out, one airport in Pennsylvania is considered the worst in America, which isn’t the best news for local travelers.
Each year, J.D. Power releases its list of the worst airports in America. Rankings are determined by several factors, including terminal facilities, airport arrival/departure, baggage claim security check, check-in/baggage check and food, beverage and retail. The firm surveyed 26,529 people on their experience and overall satisfaction.
In the ranking, the Philadelphia International Airport ranked very last out of 27 large airports, which are categorized as airports with at least 10 to 32.9 million passengers each year. The report was conducted from Aug. 2021 through July 2022.
This isn’t the first time Philly has been last, either. This is actually the second consecutive year that PHL was at the end of the tally. Out of a possible 1,000 points, it was given 729 points, down 30 from last year. The second worst large airport in America was Honolulu International, which snagged 758 points. The best large Airport in America, according to the study, is the Tampa International, garnering 846 points.
“The combination of pent-up demand for air travel, the nationwide labor shortage and steadily rising prices on everything from jet fuel to a bottle of water have created a scenario in which airports are extremely crowded and passengers are increasingly frustrated—and it is likely to continue through 2023,” Michael Taylor, travel intelligence lead at J.D. Power, said in a statement. The study also found that crowds are back to pre-pandemic levels and that one of the biggest struggles for travelers is finding a place to park.
