The Gritty 5K Is Back And Don’t You Dare Win It
The Gritty 5K is back again this year, and ‘everything’s made up and the times don’t matter’.
Gritty is a national treasure. I know it. You know it. The world knows it. Philly is #blessed.
The (scary) face of the Philadelphia Flyers, but oh so much more. Gritty does everything differently, including athleticism. There’s a Gritty 5K each year, but the point is not to win. (In fact, he says if you do win, don’t even look at him.)
The Gritty 5K raises money for Flyers charities, touts twists and detours and flying cakes, and has only one request of its participants: to get weird. Bring your friends (the fun ones), and wear homemade gritty costumes. Most of all, don’t try too hard. Oh, and don’t worry… there will still be water in tiny little paper cups.
They’ve announced the date for the ‘race’ this year. Mark your calendars for Saturday October 22nd, 2022. The confetti cannons pop at 8:30 a.m. Sign up now HERE!
This 3.1 mile run/walk is $50 to participate, $40 for 12 years and under. You get a bib, t-shirt and a Philadelphia Flyers game ticket is included with your registration.
There’s also an option to participate virtually for $45. If you go that route, you’ve got from October 8th-24th. So, as Gritty puts it, you have no excuse not to.
