A previously unheard song recorded in 1968 featuring George Harrison and Ringo Starr has finally been released.
Titled "Radhe Shaam," the track features Harrison and Starr on guitar and drums, respectively. As for how the two Beatles ended up on the track, BBC News reports the song was written and produced by Suresh Joshi, who was a friend of Harrison's that ended up introducing the guitarist to Ravi Shankar.
According to BBC News, "[Joshi] was working on the music for a documentary film, called 'East meets West,' at the Trident Studios in Soho, London, when Harrison and Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr turned up and offered to play. The pair were taking a break from recording 'Hey Jude' at the studios at the time."
So, how did the song go unreleased? Joshi said, "Time had gone on, [then] The Beatles were breaking up and had various problems so no-one wanted to [release it.]"
As for how the track surfaced after all this time, Joshi said the master tapes were found in storage at his home in Birmingham during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown by a friend who was checking up on him.
"Radhe Shaam" can be heard below. Joshi said all proceeds from the song will go to charity.
