9/11 Anniversary Events: Commemorations, Ceremonies Planned Across PA and NJ
The 20th anniversary of 9/11/01 is Saturday, and it’s being marked with ceremonies, memorials, and commemorations around the area.
Here’s a list of some of the services and programs happening to remember the events of that day.
September 11 Observance at Flight 93 National Memorial
When: Sat. Sept. 11
Time: 10:03am
Where: 6424 Lincoln Hwy., Stoystown, PA
The Flight 93 National Memorial commemorates the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 by reading the names of the flight crew and passengers during a wreath-laying, bell-ringing ceremony beginning at 10:03am. The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra will perform a memorial concert that afternoon.
Remembrance Ceremony at Betsy Ross House
When: Sat. Sept. 11
Time: 9:59am
Where: 239 Arch Street, Philadelphia PA
Mayor Jim Kenney and other community members will offer remarks and remembrance. The ceremony will also include a processional from the Fireman’s Hall Museum to the Betsy Ross House, a flag folding ceremony, and bell ringing.
Remembering 9/11 20 Years Later
When: Sat. Sept 11
Time: 8:30am & 7:00pm
Where: 1950 Woodside Rd., Yardley, PA
The Garden of Reflection will host a bell ringing ceremony at 8:30a.m. Saturday morning. That evening at 7:00p.m. there will be the Remembrance in Light ceremony which will also be available to stream live via the Lower Makefield Township YouTube channel.
9/11 Heroes Run
When: Sat. Sept. 11
Time: 9:00am
Where: 4747 Broad Street, Philadelphia PA
The Travis Manion Foundation’s 9/11 Heroes Run takes place Saturday at the Navy Yard in South Philly with both a 5K and one-mile course.
Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity’s 9/11 Ceremony
When: Sat. Sept 11
Time: 10:00am
Where: 6401 Ogontz Ave, Philadelphia PA
The Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ welcomes all for a 9/11 service led by the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity.
Haverford First Fest Music Festival
When: Sat. Sept 11
Where: Eagle Road and East Hathaway Lane, Havertown, PA
Haverford honors first responders on the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11 with a free music festival at Eagle Road and East Hathaway Lane, there will also be tributes to police, EMS, firefighters, doctors, and nurses.
Sept. 11 Memorial Ride Barb’s Harley Davidson to Atlantic City Bike Week
When: Sat. Sept. 11
Time: 7:30 a.m.
Where: 926 East Black Horse Pike in Mount Ephraim
A memorial motorcycle drive in honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 is taking place on Sat., Sept. 11. Participants will meet at Barb’s Harley-Davidson in Mount Ephraim and then ride to Atlantic City. Kickstands are up at 8:30 a.m., and you can register here.
Gloucester County Patriot Day Ceremony
When: Sat. Sept 11
Time: 8:30am
Where: Chestnut Branch Park, 401 Main St., Mantua, NJ
Gloucester County will hold an hour-long ceremony featuring a wreath laying, bell ringing, and visits from 9/11 victim’s families and first responders.
Remembrance Ceremony in Burlington County
When: Sat. Sept. 11
Time: 11:00am
Where: 53 Academy Dr, Westampton, NJ
A remembrance ceremony will take place outside the Burlington County Emergency Service Training Center and include a wreath-laying ceremony, a bagpipe processional, and a reading of the names of the victims from Burlington County.
