The highly-anticipated first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections has finally been released!

The trailer opens up with Thomas (Keanu Reeves) in the middle of a therapy session with Neil Patrick Harris' character, who says, "Thomas, you seem particularly triggered right now. Can you tell me what happened?"

To which Keanu responds, "I've had dreams that weren't just dreams," while we see a flash of images that we are sure to see in the forthcoming film. Keanu's Thomas character asks if he's crazy, which prompts Harris' character to say, "We don't use that word in here."

Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" begins to play for the remainder of the trailer as we see what the newest installment in the franchise is going to be like. We see a relaxing Thomas in a bathtub, taking in some self care, but as the camera comes in for a closer shot, a tear streams down his face.

It seems in Thomas' reality, he does not recall being Neo, as he shakes Trinity's hand and they don't remember each other. "Have we met?" asks Trinity.

An interesting detail earlier in the trailer is Harris' blue glasses; we see Thomas eat a bunch of blue pills -- the blue pill, of course, was the pill that would allow you to stick to the reality you’ve known your whole life. We see an elevator full of people surrounding Thomas completely obsessed with their electronic devices. This causes Thomas to dump all of his blue pills.

As we hear, "Go ask Alice," Alice in Wonderland Through The Looking Glass is shut by a woman in glasses in a coffee shop. What follows next is a magical mirror, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's character offering Thomas a red pill saying, "Time to fly."

As Thomas becomes Neo once more, the trailer shows amazing CGI effects that we've come to expect from the franchise. The Matrix opens on December 22 in theaters and HBO Max.
