Larry Flynt, the infamous founder of Hustler magazine and other ventures in the pornography industry, has died. He was 78.
TMZ reports Flynt died Wednesday morning (February 10) as a result of heart failure per family sources.
Flynt founded Hustler in 1974 and was known for being considerably more graphic than its competition Playboy and Penthouse. The Hustler brand has since expanded to include a chain of bars and clubs, adult novelty stores and other pornographic magazine titles, television channels and films.
A significant amount of Flynt's life was chronicled in the 1996 film The People vs. Larry Flynt, which starred Woody Harrelson as Flynt, Courtney Love as Flynt's fourth wife Althea Leasure and Edward Norton as Alan Isaacman, Flynt's attorney that represented him in the 1988 trial Hustler Magazine v. Falwell before the United States Supreme Court.
