Maine Man Recreates Scene from ‘Elf’ When Meeting his Biological Father
Doug Henning, a 40-year-old adoptee from Eliot, Maine, flew to Boston to meet his biological dad for the first time ever after a cousin helped him connect to his two biological sisters and biological father via Ancestry.com.
The plans were set for Henning to fly to Boston to meet his dad and while watching the movie “Elf” with his family he had an idea to dress up as Will Ferrell’s character, Buddy, and sing just like Buddy does when he first meets his biological dad in the movie.
Henning told Boston.com “When he came out of the airport, he probably thought I was a lunatic,” Henning said. “It was a really good way to break the ice.”
Henning’s dad didn’t quite get it as he hadn’t seen the movie but his two sisters had and got a kick out of the charade.
Henning said they sat down as a family and watched the movie together.
