Tom Petty's family released a brief statement on the use of "I Won't Back Down" by President-elect Joe Biden during his victory speech over the weekend.

The family shared via Twitter, "We were all so touched to see Tom included on such an important night in America. Congratulations Joe Biden and Kamala Harris."

Back in June, the Petty family issued a lengthy statement following the use of the same song by President Donald Trump's campaign at a rally in Tulsa, Okla. The statement read in part, "Trump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind."

Featured on Petty's 1989 debut solo album Full Moon Fever, "I Won't Back Down" is one of his most successful singles peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at #12.
