TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer Has Resigned
Kevin Mayer, the CEO of TikTok, has resigned over pressure the company has received to sell the app. Per Billboard, “His resignation follows President Donald Trump’s order to ban TikTok unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells its U.S. operations to an American company within 90 days.”
According to the outlet, Mayer sent out a letter to employees and highlighted that his decision was because the “political environment has sharply changed.”
He said to employees, “I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for. Against this backdrop, and as we expect to reach a resolution very soon, it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company.”
In a statement, TikTok acknowledged Mayer’s departure, saying, “We appreciate that the political dynamics of the last few months have significantly changed what the scope of Kevin’s role would be going forward, and fully respect his decision.”
Kevin Mayer joined TikTok as the CEO in May.
