Bruce Springsteen made an appearance during night one of the Democratic National Convention when his song, "The Rising," was used in a music video that aired during the evening's proceedings.
Embedded below, the video features various scenes across the United States, from frontline workers at hospitals to people taking part in the many protests that followed the murder of George Floyd. Springsteen and wife/E Street Band member Patti Scialfa also appeared in the video briefly during a portion that featured close-up images of different Americans. The video led to both Springsteen and the hashtag #TheRising to trend on Twitter.
"The Rising" is the title track from Springsteen's 12th studio album. Released in 2002 in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, The Rising went to number one on the Billboard 200 album charts and won the Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 2003.
