Go-Go’s Documentary Premiering in August on Showtime
The Go-Go’s, the highly-anticipated documentary about the iconic female band, finally has a premiere date on Showtime.
Per Rolling Stone, the documentary will premiere on the premium network on August 1 at 9 PM ET. In a statement, the band said, “We lived it and we survived it. Now, looking back on our history through this film, we get to relive our journey as a band: the fun, the adventure, the highs and the lows. We hope this documentary will show the world that we were pioneers, and how our experience paved the way for many other female (and some male!) musicians.”
The documentary has been a long time coming, and it screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Unlike the band’s infamous VH1 Behind the Music special, the documentary isn’t all about the debauchery of the band. In an interview with Variety, guitarist Jan Wiedlin said, “I was really happy that [director] Alison [Ellwood] focused a lot on the fun we had, and the camaraderie and the love and the milestones and not just the salacious stuff, because we’ve already been through one salacious thing with VH1. But there’s so much more to us than just ‘Oh, America’s sweethearts!’ or ‘Oh, they’re drug-crazed demons.’ You know, we’re humans and we’re in-between that. So I feel like Alison really showed that.”
The Go-Go’s were set to hit the road this summer on a U.S. tour in honor of their new documentary, but those dates have been postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
