The Giants Hire MLB’s First Female Full-Time Coach
Alyssa Nakken has become the first full-time coach hired by Major League Baseball. According to the Washington Post, Her role will be “helping to build a winning culture in the clubhouse.” Before being hired full-time with the Giants, Nakken worked with the franchise as an intern, and overseeing health and wellness initiatives.
Alyssa Nakken is a former standout softball player at Sacramento State, where she played first base from 2009 – 2012. Her achievements include being a four-time Academic All American, three-time All-Pacific Coast Softball Conference selection, and the 2012 conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Not only will Nakken, focus on health and wellness for the team, but she will also assist with pregame outfield work and will be a batting practice pitcher during the season. Unfortunately, since she is the franchises 13th coach, she won’t be in uniform and visible during games as the MLB limits teams to seven coaches on the bench.
