Kill bugs, earn points! Battling the Spotted Lanternfly
By now you’ve heard of the spotted lanternfly. So many nearby areas are covered in them. It’s a really terrible invasive species and it’s causing havoc to Pennsylvania agriculture. If you like drinking wine, or beer – you should care about this and do your part to get rid of these pests.
The Department of Agriculture is asking us to kill as many as we can, and help to eradicate them from this area, but if you find that killing these bugs has become a boring task…. there’s now an app for that.
At the request of his two sons, a dad has made the process way more fun. He made a game out of it, by creating a new APP called SQUISHR. It’s simple. Score points for every spotted lanternfly you kill. People compete to kill as many as possible, and we all win. Squishr is free in the APP store. The town of Willistown, Pennsylvania is also hosting a spotted lanternfly SMASH-A-THON. From now through Halloween, residents can win prizes for killing the pesky bugs. Here’s a great article outlining the rules of the contest.
