Science Proves a Classic U2 Song is the Most Ideal Lullaby for Babies
Have a fussy baby that just won’t go to sleep? You should consider playing them this U2 song.
In a study from Durham University as reported by The Irish Post, U2’s “One” was determined to be the “perfect lullaby.” How was this determined? A number of researchers analyzed about 4,500 songs that were featured on various lullaby playlists on Spotify. From those songs, the researchers determined an overall average beats per minute and common key and time signatures to determine “the perfect formula for a lullaby.” Turns out, this classic from U2’s seventh studio album Achtung Baby happens to fall within that formula.
The Irish Post notes this, but it bears mentioning that “One” is certainly a very interesting choice for a lullaby considering its subject matter. “One” was mainly inspired by tensions in the band that nearly led to them breaking up while recording what would become Achtung Baby. Oh, and since U2 was also recording in Berlin in the early ’90s, they were also living around the mild event of East and West Germany unifying after the fall of the Berlin Wall. You know…really light and airy stuff!
Anyway, who are we to argue with science?! And if the song really does help babies fall asleep, there are probably countless parents thankful for this study.
