Ric Flair Might Sue WWE Over Becky Lynch’s Use of ‘The Man’
Ric Flair is looking for WWE to compensate him regarding Becky Lynch‘s use of “The Man,” and if he’s not paid, he might take the company to court.
Flair has long been known for the catchphrase, “To be the man, you gotta beat the man,” and the catchphrase became a focal point during Lynch’s feud with Flair’s daughter, Charlotte, leading into WrestleMania 35. Since the feud, however, Lynch’s continued use of referring to herself as “The Man” has lead to Flair considering legal action.
“The Nature Boy” told TMZ Sports that he holds the trademark on his “To be the man…” catchphrase, and he also filed an application in August to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to own the term “The Man.” He said he’s also been in contact with WWE Superstar/executive Triple H trying to come to a financial agreement but to no avail.
Flair said he has no problem with Lynch using “The Man,” but he’s just looking for what he feels is his rightful cut in order to provide for his family, namely his wife, Wendy Barlow.
Flair says in the video below, “When I almost died two years ago, one person [Wendy] stayed by me. The whole time—31 days in the ICU, 12 days while I was dying on a respirator—and I’m gonna take care of her, and her family, and my family that has taken care of me no matter what.”
All things considered, you can’t really blame Naitch, but hopefully, Flair and WWE will be able to come to an agreement and things don’t have to get ugly in court.
