After the 60th GRAMMY Awards, they decided to increase the number of nominees for Record, Song, Album, and New Artist Of The Year.

The increase? 5 to 8.

Billboard shared the following:

“Recording Academy president Neil Portnow says the changes, which take effect immediately, provide ‘more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year.'”

Initially, they used 5 as a tie-breaker, but Portnow also said in his statement, “This creates more opportunities for a wider-range of recognition in these important categories and gives more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year. We look forward to celebrating all of our nominees when they are announced later this year.”

This sounds like a good plan, and hopefully will add more opportunities for women, who statistically are vastly under-represented.
