THIS is your brain on drugs.

A 23-year-old Oregon guy  saw a car parked on the side of the road on Saturday . . . and even though a few cops were standing right by it, waiting for it to get towed, he decided to hop in and STEAL IT.

He got into a high-speed chase with some other cops, which included him busting through chain link fences, going the wrong way down a bunch of different roads, and running over two sets of spike strips.

The cops caught him when he got out of the car, ran into a trailer park, and tried to steal a different car.

And why did he do it?  He told police he'd taken LSD and didn't realize it was real life . . . he thought he was playing the video game "Grand Theft Auto".

Unfortunately for him, "I thought life was a video game" isn't really an excuse, so he was arrested on several charges.
