UPDATE: U2 Release Live Performance Clip of “The Blackout”
UPDATE – 08/30/2017 12:10 PM EST: As promised, U2 has released the new track “The Blackout” from their upcoming album Songs Of Experience this afternoon, and it’s perhaps one of the most aggressive tunes the band has put out in years.
The video below shows the band performing the track live before an intimate crowd. Don’t be shocked if its booming chorus becomes the latest earworm you just can’t get rid of.
ORIGINAL STORY
U2 is teasing a new song, “The Blackout,” likely from its upcoming Songs Of Experience album.
The group has released a 15-second snippet of the song online along with an announcement via Twitter that the entire track will be released at noon ET today (August 30). This follows cryptic letters sent to fans last week that featured shadowy figures of a boy and girl holding hands with much of the text obscured, save for highlighted words such as “Blackout…It’s clear who you are will appear…U2.com” and the message “U2 will announce [blackout space] on [blackout space].”
Rumors also have another new track, “You’re The Best Thing About Me,” coming out September 8 and the Songs Of Experience album dropping December 1 in conjunction with World AIDS Day — though U2 has not confirmed those reports.
The group resumes its Joshua Tree Tour 2017 tour on September 3 in Detroit, followed by shows in the U.S. Mexico and South America through October 25.
