Recap From Opening Night of Seger’s “Runaway Train” Tour
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band got its “Runaway Train” Tour rolling on Thursday night (August 24), at the Huntington Center in Toledo.
Billboard reports that the 21-song, nearly two-hour show was loaded with hits but also included the first-ever live performance of the title track to 1991’s The Fire Inside as well as the return of “You’ll Accomp’ny Me,” which Seger said he hadn’t played live in about 25 years.
The band, meanwhile, featured new drummer Greg Morrow from Nashville in place of Don Brewer, who was otherwise committed to Grand Funk Railroad, while former Silver Bullet guitarist Mark Chatfield was back in the ranks for about a third of the songs.
Seger pulled two song – the environmentally conscious “It’s Your World” and Steve Earle’s “The Devil’s Right Hand” – from his most recent album, Ride Out, but most of the show leaned on well-established hits from the traditional show opener “Roll Me Away” to 1968’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” and encores that included “Against The Wind,” “Hollywood Nights,” “Night Moves” and “Rock and Roll Never Forgets,” for which he changed the lyric to “sweet 16 turns 72!”
The tour currently has dates announced through November 4, with more expected to be announced.
