Joe Walsh Announces Charities Benefiting From VetsAid
Joe Walsh has announced eight charities as beneficiaries of his all-star VetsAid benefit concert taking place on September 20 in Fairfax, Va.
Proceeds from the show will go to Operation Mend, Hire Heroes USA, the Warrior Canine Connection, TAPS, the Semper Fi Fund, the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, Stop Soldier Suicide and Swords To Plowshares.
Walsh, whose own father was killed while on active duty in Okinawa when the guitarist was just 20 months old, tells us that his goal for VetsAid, which is also a resource organization for military veterans, is to assist smaller, grass roots concerns with their operations:
“I decided after looking around there’s a bunch of smaller organizations around the country and some of them are vet-operated and they’re really in the trenches and they’re doing a great job…for vets…So VetsAid is going to help these little, individual pockets of veterans related organizations. I want to get them together and get them on the web site and also fund them so they can keep going, and that’s what I’m in the process of doing.”
In addition to Walsh, the Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban and Gary Clark Jr. will perform at the VetsAid concert, which Walsh intends to be an annual event. Walsh will also be on the road this fall with the Eagles, including a September 30 show in Seattle and four dates during October.
