Rumor: Springsteen Slated for Broadway Residency
Is The Boss headed to Broadway? That’s the hot Bruce Springsteen rumor that surfaced late last week.
After spending more than 13 months on the road with the E Street Band during 2016-17, Springsteen is reportedly about to hunker down for an eight-week run later this year at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City.
A source tells Page Six that Springsteen “wants to play a smaller house. He wants to try something more intimate, and he likes the idea of being on Broadway.” The source says the run will likely start in November, with Springsteen playing five shows per week.
As the Kerr seats less than 1,000, ticket demand could take on “Hamilton” proportions. They’ll likely be markedly different shows than Springsteen does with the E Street Band, but guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt tells us he’s confident we haven’t seen the last of that group:
“I know from time to time he likes to do something solo and so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did something of a solo nature, be it a record or be it a tour, I’m not really sure. There’s been no discussion about it… He probably gets a little antsy at some point, taking too much time off himself. But there’s been no plan. We could reunite for 2018 or not. I think at this point we’re kind of in a good place where we have some flexibility…We’ve just been getting bigger and bigger every single tour. So we can take a year or two off without it affecting our popularity. So that’s a nice place to be, gives you a little flexibility and gives people a chance to maybe do some solo things. It’s really great.”
Springsteen has yet to make an official comment about the Broadway reports.
