It's ON - Science Fest 2014 With The Franklin Institute

Strategic Integrated Programs and Science Festival Director and founding Director of the Philadelphia Science Festival at The Franklin Institute. Since its inaugural celebration in 2011, the Festival has engaged hundreds of thousands in hands-on, interactive STEM activities. Under her direction, the program continues to grow on an annual basis—the Festival brings together more than 175 partnering organizations and is a model program within the national Science Festival Alliance as it is the first science festival in this country to successfully be led by a large science center. She also plays a leadership role within the aforementioned Alliance, mentoring staff from other festivals. In 2012, Gerri was nominated for Geek of the Year by the Philadelphia Geek Awards.

From 2006 to 2009, Trooskin ran three annual city-wide programs for the Free Library of Philadelphia. The One Book, One Philadelphia program grew significantly under her direction, engaged more than 100 partners, and the relationships built throughout the community during this time have served her well in her current role. She’s worked as a Community Organizer and Policy Researcher for the Women’s Community Revitalization Project in North Philadelphia and was a Social Worker for adjudicated dependent adolescent girls within the juvenile justice system.

Gerri has both bachelors in Systems Science and Engineering and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.
