43 Views :: 0 Comments ::

You won't believe this, but according to American Funeral Director Magazine (there really IS a magazine for everything these days), many people are requesting to be buried with their cell phones and/or Blackberrys.  Some people have even asked to be buried with their Bluetooth in their ear.  I guess this gives a new meaning to "rollover minutes".  For the full story, click here.

Can WE BE FINE in '09? - Sunday, December 28, 2008
48 Views :: 0 Comments ::

OK, let's not make new year's resolutions...we never stick to them anyway right?  But, maybe we can create a clean slate and set weekly or monthly goals?  Realistic ones anyway.

Over the holidays, like you, I ate too much, drank too much and basically tossed out what little exercise regimen I have so what's next?  First, be realistic.  That picture I found recently while organizing my bedroom, the photo taken twenty years ago in Puerto Rico...I'm never gonna look like that again...BUT...and this is a big butt, I can commit to a healthier lifestyle in an attempt to not have to hold my breathe trying to get into my jeans, at the very least!  I'm asking myself, how long does it take to walk a mile or two 3 x/week...do I have time for crunches the other four days a week and then it dawned on me - I'm going to try to Ellen DeGenerous work out regiment and DANCE.

Every morning I have the pleasure of taking Ben commercial free for 2 hours starting at 8:30 a.m. so I'm all set.  This is where you come in...will you dance with me?

Please tell me what goals you've set as well and let's help each other by sharing tips, advice, support and more right here on my blog.  Also, tell me what songs motivate you to get up and dance every morning and I'll do what I can to accomodate you.  In the words of the fabulous David Bowie "Let's Dance."  We're on our way to being "fine in '09."

TOBY Needs a Good Home for the Holidays - Thursday, December 18, 2008

Can you Help?  Toby is 3 and and a beloved pet that has been living with a family on their 5 acre farm for almost 3 years now.  He visited Ben FM this morning with him Mom Ginny and Mary Remer, an amazing Dog Trainer from "What a Good Dog."  Mary will be an upcoming Woman of the Week here at Ben FM...but Toby, he really needs a home now.  He is a mix of Treeing Walker Coonhound and possibly Great Dane and weighs in at 90 lbs.  He is obedient, comes when called, follows basic commands and is both crate trained and housebroken.  At the moment, he's just not getting along with the other farm animals...but is still very affectionate, loyal and is great with people.  He does get anxious at times, but is being treated for anxiety and his family is hoping to find a good home with a big back yard.  If you can help, or know anyone who can, please email Ginny at vmrobertson@comcast.net

Slumdog Millionaire - Monday, December 15, 2008

Call me old fashioned, but some movies I still want to experience in the movie theatre, instead of at home on my sofa.  Especially when Danny Boyle directs.  The guy is one of the premier film directors of our time and uses music in movies like no one else - brilliantly.  I caught Slumdog Millionaire this weekend...and it's the only movie this year that exceeded my expectations (allright Iron Man was really cool too).  Slumdog is the story of Jamal Malik (Patel), an 18-yr old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is chosen as a contestant on India's  Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and is one-question away from winning a million.  His story unfolds in flashbacks as he answers each question - that's how you learn how he knows the answers.  Sometimes sad, sometimes funny and always poignant, his life unfolds before our eyes and we are rooting for him all the way.  Some violence, so not recommended for the kids!  I had the pleasure of meeting Director Danny Boyle and asking him first hand about the movie, his use of music in a few of his other movies and more...he's a charming guy, so give it a listen if you have time...but definitely, see Slumdog.  Already nominated for 4 Golden Globes (which is sometimes a pre-cursor for the Academy Awards) and has won lots of Critics and People's choice awards in Chicago, L.A., Montreal and more.

There's a good chance you grew up with a Chia Pet but little did you know back then that pet packed a powerful health punch.  Apparently, Chia seeds can boost your energy level.

You remember the chia pet of the past?  Well it turns out the seeds you used to grow that Chia pet are a super power food.

Its high in protein so and high in fiber so it also gives a sense of being full, its great for weight loss.

Other benefits include:
  More omega-3s than flax seeds
  High in antioxidants, calcium and iron
  Low in sodium
  Gluten free

But having said all that...give me a cheesesteak!
